May I recommend “Blueberries for Sal”? It’s a classic children’s book that I always associate with autumn. It follows what looks to be a fifties or early sixties era mother and daughter picking berries for canning, and there run in with a couple of bears. The cover is goldenrod, and it has the most wonderful illustrations The little kids I nanny love it.
