Vintage Hot Spot: Of Cabbages & Kings Stoke Newington London
When I spotted the inside of this charming shop in London, I knew I had to share it with you. I hope you enjoy this little peek inside Of Cabbages & Kings.
The shop opened it’s doors at the end of May last year, so we’re just coming up to the one year anniversary
What kind of store is Of Cabbages & Kings?
Essentially Of Cabbages & Kings presents itself as a gift shop
selling hand made crafts and independent designer jewellery and
homeware. We also display original artwork and hold small exhibitions
at the shop, so I’d like to think that Of Cabbages is also a gallery
space, albeit a slightly unconventional one.
We stock a pretty broad range of items, from vintage playing card cards
to environmentally friendly knickers, ceramic pumpkins and biscuit
jewellery. Most items come with a bit of a twist. I tend to look for
items that are fun or unusual in some way, but are also very well made.
Primarily the products we sell, which are hopefully much more
interesting and unconventional, but also the presentation. Of Cabbages
& Kings looks as much like a 1950s kitchen as it does a gift shop.
I’d also like to think the service makes a difference as we try as far
as possible to be both welcoming and personable.

Absolutely. By shopping independently, you often know exactly who’s
benefiting from your money and frequently it tends to be people within
your own community. Most of the designers that Of Cabbages & Kings
promotes live and work locally and I know them personally. I know just
how important it is for them to have independent shops that are happy
to work with small-scale production and allow them the opportunity to
show their work, but independents can only survive with support from
the public.
