Road Trip Madison Indiana: Riverboat Inn

It's been awhile since I told you about my anniversary trip to Madison Indiana. My husband surprised me with a sitter for the kids and an overnight away. It was dreamy bliss. We traveled to Madison with no specific plans to stay anywhere, I like spontaneous. As we crossed the Ohio River and into Madison, I spotted the Riverboat Inn and didn't think much about it.

We started our day with shopping in Madison on the main strip and started asking the locals about places to stay. This is the best way to get some real opinions on where to eat and stay. Most of the time locals are happy to help and truthful about what they are saying.  Over and over many of the shop owners were telling us we needed to check out Riverboat Inn. They said this older hotel had been remodeled and newly furnished and the owner Kathie was a great host.

So with map in tow, we headed to Riverboat Inn. When we arrived the building's outside structure did seem very old and at first sight I was skeptical to stay. So we decided to go in and asked to see a room. The gracious front desk attendant welcomed us with warmth and was happy to show us a couple of available rooms. We headed up the flight of stairs to check out the rooms.

Upon opening the door, this was our view from the second floor balcony. So far so good.

Room

This was the first room shown to us, on the top floor a corner room. As you can see it is very cozy and decorated with a country style and feel to it. We also viewed a second room, but thought if we decided to stay this would be the room we would want.

So we left as we had plans to check out a couple of other places to stay. Needless to stay we headed right back to this cozy room and checked in.

This was our view to the left upon stepping out of our room. It was a little chilly, but the comfortable seating and heaters provided made for a nice relaxing space. The Riverboat Inn has more of a bed and breakfast feel than a hotel for sure. Each of the rooms are decorated a little differently and all very clean and comfortable.

This is the view from the bottom balcony as you walk through the main floor past the bar and dining area. There isn't a restaurant, but often live music on the weekends and the lovely bar tender Bonnie, will be happy to make you your favorite drink.

Kathie Petkovic, Riverboat Inn's owner purchased the building back in 2007. It was in dire need of an update, plumbing repairs and many more adjustments for proper accommodations. My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting her while we enjoyed an evening of live music from an amazing acoustic guitarist.

I can't say enough good things about Riverboat Inn and I encourage you to book a room there if you get the chance. Riverboat Inn is also available for girlfriend getaways and often book the entire top floor for retreats and getaways for large groups. There is plenty of space to stretch out, play cards enjoy the view and so much more. We'll be back to Madison for sure and will always stay at the Riverboat Inn.
