For the Love of Old Things: Susan Duane
I'm very thankful for my lovely contributing editors. They have provided me with some wonderful things to share with you this week. I hope to be back to posting as soon as this house stuff is settled. We are hopefully only a day away from listing it on the market. Until then, I leave you with Susan Duane's love for vintage. xoxo – Gabreial
It's no secret I love old things. I love the history they carry. It's
in their imperfections that I find beauty; the signs that they were
once loved and cherished. When I peruse an estate sale or antique
market and I find something I'm drawn to, I can't help but wonder where
it had been before but I also try to look at it in a new way. Taking it
from forgotten treasure to a reinvented piece that will be enjoyed for
years to come. My taste is simple but feminine and romantic.
For awhile I collected some beautiful vintage beaded collars and wanted
to update them. With the addition of some handmade rosettes, some
sparkle and a little added room at the back, these collars were given a
new life. Since they were quite small in size I added pretty vintage
pearl beading to one and the other a ribbon tie these simple
modifications allow them to be worn by most any size.
So the next time you're out thrifting or antiquing take a look around
you. See what you can do to update a piece from the past with a modern
twist for today.
Happy hunting!

What vintage goodness have you picked up lately that you just couldn't live without?
Wow, you never cease to amaze me Susan…these are gorgeous!
What a wonderful idea! The little store in town here has one and my friend just can’t sell it in the condition it is in. I should ask her if she wants me to make it over for her using your technique. I am sure it will fly off the shelf then!
Have you picked a winner for the homeschool planners from your 2/17 post? Will you post the winners or not?
Not yet, but we will be posting them soon. Yes. I will publish those here.
Thanks!
Just came across your blog, just love it! I hope you don’t mind me placing you as a fav blog link on my blog. I love sharing fun blogs. You have so many wonderful posts. Thanks!
